（Gig-uh-no-toe-sore-us⁄Jig-uh-no-toe-sore-us） The Giant Southern Lizardǃ The remains of Giganotosaurus were discovered by amateur fossil collector Rubén D․ Carolini in Neuquén‚ Argentina․ It was first identified from a large leg bone‚ which early estimates put the size of Giganotosaurus being larger than Tyrannosaurus․ Although nowadays‚ Tyrannosaurus is the heavier dinosaur‚ the overall size difference is mostly negligible․ Not exactly the largest carnivore the world has ever seen‚ but it was a giant‚ that lived alongside other giants․ Giganotosaurus hailed from the Candeleros Formation‚ which spanned from 99 to 97 Million years ago․ This took place about 30 million years before the appearance of Tyrannosaurus rex․ Giganotosaurus was a hunter of sauropods （long-necks） and made great use of its sharp blade-like teeth that could tear off flesh with ease․
